The Noosa Canoe Trail is an experience of a lifetime. The Trail features magnificent canoeing through the entire Upper Noosa River including side walks to the spectacular Cooloola Sandpatch and to Teewah Coloured Sands. It is said to be the most surprising canoe trip in Australia due to its beautiful scenery, excellent equipment and facilities and the knowledge and dedication of its specialist staff. We look at our staff as being more then guides. They are fully qualified and experienced instructors who hope to give you more than a guided holiday but rather skills in canoeing and environmental protection that will last a lifetime. To that end, we limit groups to 10 people. |
Arrive at Elanda Point at any time during the day and check into the office to obtain your cabin for a comfortable overnight stay. Transport can be arranged to and from Noosa-Tewantin and Elanda Point. Take time to roam amongst the kangaroos that live on the plains at Elanda or take a swim in Lake Cootharaba. For the more energetic you can take the 2 km Mill Point Walk to savor a moment of history at Mill Point where a town of 250 people thrived in 1870 but today has almost vanished. If you are even more energetic you can hire a sailing cat or a windsurfer to test your skill against the big winds of the famous Lake Cootharaba. The kiosk is open at Elanda during the day. At 7.00pm you will get to meet your fellow canoeists and your guides at the pre-tour briefing in the dining hall and then enjoy a full carvery dinner with your group.
TopEnjoy a full cooked breakfast and be ready to depart Elanda at 7.30am by our four-wheel drive vehicle through the Como Scarp. The road is rough and the log bridges rickety, but very soon you'll arrive at the crystal-clear spring fed waters at the head of the Teewah Creek. After disembarking and morning tea, it is on with your wet shoes and buoyancy vest and after putting your daypacks with water bottle in your canoe, you're off for the cruise down Teewah Creek. With the current behind you its only a matter of steering your canoe down the babbling stream. No need to worry as your guide is always handy to give help and instruction. Soon you'll reach the Noosa River where lunch is already prepared. After lunch we canoe further down the Noosa River finally arriving in the late afternoon at our river base where we will spend our first night on the trail. After canoeing 20 km on your first day on the Upper Noosa River you will be pleased to see the tent base set up and a three course meal ready to be served and why not have a wine, you deserve it.
TopAfter a full cooked breakfast it's on with your walking shoes (joggers) for the walk up the sandmass to Cooloola Sandpatch. It's a fair climb up the sandmass so don't forget to have a full water bottle in your daypack. After a walk on the spectacular sandpatch it's back down to the river, where lunch is prepared and waiting after a morning walk of 12 km. After lunch it's back into the canoes and we set off down the Upper Noosa River through the water wonderland often referred to as the Noosa everglades, stopping for afternoon tea at Harry's Hut and finally arriving at Fig Tree Point on Lake Cootharaba. After a canoe paddle of 12 km it's great to see the tent base again and to smell the cooked dinner - and why not have another wine!
TopAfter Breakfast we canoe to the Kinaba Visitor's centre, this unique building is built on pylons over the waters of Lake Cootharaba. There we meet the National Park Rangers and after viewing the displays there we paddle down the protected eastern side of Lake Cootharaba to the Teewah Landing. After canoeing 5 km it's time to pull on the joggers for the walk through to Teewah Beach. When we reach Teewah beach you will be pleased to see that lunch is waiting and the 4wd bus is ready to take us along the beach to view the coloured sands. Soon it's time to walk back to Lake Cootharaba for an exciting speed boat ride back across the lake to Elanda Point. That night we'll have a celebration dinner and present you with a group photo and certificate. After dinner and celebrations you'll be pleased to return to your comfortable cabin at Elanda.
TopAfter breakfast it's time to say goodbye to your new friends and Elanda Point. Your bus leaves for Noosa-Tewantin at 8.30am.
