ADV 7. TEEWAH COLOURED SANDS &
MT. SEAWAH A D V E N T U R E

The Elanda Point Canoe & Motor Boat Company absolutely does not recommend crossing of Lake Cootharaba by canoe to the Teewah Landing. The lake can quickly become rough in the middle and there this lake is relatively deep. The best way to cross the lake to Teewah Landing is by hire motor boat in approximately 40 minutes one way (5km).

4wd Canoeists can by a longer safer route, reach Teewah Landing in 2 hours one way via the Kinaba Information Centre and the northern end of the lake. From the Teewah Landing a 15 minute walk one way (2km) eventually reaches Teewah Beach. Along the beach north of this point there are coloured sands displays. Off the Teewah Landing Walking Tail a side track of about 15 minutes one way (2km) goes to the top of Mt. Seawah and gives great views of the river, lakes, beach and Noosa.

Groups have been known to split into two half groups of canoeists with one half group of canoes heading for the Teewah Landing and the other half group heading for campsite 3. The half group at campsite 3 walks over to the Cooloola Sandpatch and meets the other half group who have walked the Teewah Walking Trail to the beach and headed north to meet up with them. Both half groups camp at least overnight, in the Beach Camping Zone just north of the Cooloola Sandpatch. For beach camping permits contact the National Parks on (07) 131304. Both half groups then walk past each other to reach each other's canoes. They then paddle back to Elanda after a complete round trip of 50 kilometers.

Four wheel drive vehicles may provide support to groups on the beach by leaving Elanda and driving down to Tewantin. At Tewantin they take the vehicle ferry at the end of Moorindal Street across the Noosa River and then drive along the beach to meet up with the group. Driving further north along the beach they can see the wreck of the Cherry Venture and then use either the Freshwater Road or the Leisha Track to reach Rainbow Beach. From Rainbow Beach they can use the Cooloola Way to go back to Elanda Point after a complete round trip of 130 km. Remember when driving on the beach to have four wheel drive engaged at all times, lower your tyre pressure to at last 18 psi and drive on the beach only or very close to low tide.
