ADV 6. THE COOLOOLA WILDERNESS WALKING TRAIL

Kangaroo This trail of 42.6km in length begins at Mullen Carpark on the Rainbow Beach road and finishes at Elanda Point. It takes about two hours one way (48km) to drive from Elanda Point on a rough, gravel road called the Cooloola Way to the beginning of the Cooloola Wilderness Walking Trail at Mullen Carpark. At Mullen there are no facilities. Elanda Point can provide transport by landcruiser taxi from Elanda to Mullen and, as well, to the place where the walking trail crosses the Cooloola Way, and also to Harry's Camping & Day Use area.
From Mullen Carpark to the first camping area at Neeb's Waterhole, takes a 2 1/2 hour walk one way (8km). From Neeb's to the Cooloola Way takes a 2 hour walk one way (6km). From the Cooloola Way to the second camping area at Wandi Waterway takes 1 hour of walking one way (3km). From Wandi to the third camping area at Harry's takes 2 1/2 hours of solid walking one way (8km). From Harry's to the fourth camping area at Fig Tree Point takes 1 1/2 hours of walking one way (6km). From Fig Tree Point to Elanda Point is a 3 hour walk one way (11km).

Neebs Waterhole and Wandi Waterhole are wilderness camping areas with no facilities and no fires allowed, but water can be obtained for treating from both waterholes. Make sure you carry a small fuel stove for cooking and boiling. Harry's has toilets, barbecues and shelter shed with water tank. Fig Tree Point has toilets, barbecues and fresh water tank.
