The waterways beyond the Kinaba Information Centre, often
called the Noosa Everglades, may be quite deep especially at the mouth of
the Kin Kin Creek. Fig Tree Point is the closest wilderness campsite to
Elanda Point being 1 hour 20 minutes canoe paddle one way (5.5km) from Elanda.
Wilderness campsites in the Cooloola should be booked prior to your arrival
by phoning the National Parks on (07) 131304. Fig tree Point
is 40 minutes one way by hire motor boat from Elanda Point. Probably the best picnic area around, Fig Tree Point, features picnic tables, barbecues, a fresh water tank, toilets, a camping area and board walk circuit through a melaleuca swamp. By using the Cooloola Wilderness Trail you can hike from Elanda to Fig Tree Point in 3 hours one way (11km) crossing the Kin Kin Creek footbridge on the way. Again groups may split into two half groups with half of the group walking and the other half of the group canoeing. However, as you can see, it's a fairly long distance between the canoeing time and the walking time. |
