Adventure Canoe
  • Walking time from Elanda: 1 1/2 hours one way (7km).
  • Can be very wet after rain.
  • Don't forget mosquito repellent.
  • Canoeing time from Elanda: 1 hour one way (4.5 km).
  • Lake Cootharaba can be very rough in the afternoon.

The Kinaba Information Centre is virtually at the point where the Kin Kin Creek and the Upper Noosa River flow into Lake Cootharaba and is the start of the area commonly called the Noosa Everglades.

It's one and a half hours walk one way (7km) from Elanda to the Kinaba Information Centre. This track which is an offshoot from the famous Cooloola Wilderness Walking Trail, can be very wet after rain and you should be prepared to cross creeks where the water may be knee deep. Don't forget mosquito repellent. At the Kinaba Information Centre you can view the displays and take the self-guided walk along the boardwalks through the mangrove swamps. There are toilets at Kinaba as well as a freshwater tank.

It's a one hour canoe paddle one way (4.5km) from Elanda to the Kinaba Information Centre or 30 minutes one way cruise in a hire motor boat. Groups often split into two half groups with half of the group canoeing and the other half walking. They then swap over for the return journey. Often when the wind becomes strong, the canoe paddle across the lake can become very difficult - however, the lake is very shallow and the canoes can easily be walked home to Elanda Point.

To avoid the canoe paddle around lake Cootharaba the Elanda Point Canoe & Motor Boat Company hires canoes at Kinaba Information Centre and as well provides transport by watertaxi from Elanda to Kinaba and return. Also the Elanda Point Canoe & Motor Boat Company conducts the Everglades Half Day Guided Canoe Safari from Kinaba through to the Noosa Everglades every Friday leaving Elanda at 12.30pm by watertaxi and arriving back at Elanda at 4.30pm.
